HARTFORD – State Senator John A. Kissel (R-7) and State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) expressed their support of an $800,000 Community Development Block Grant to the Suffield Housing Authority for facility improvement.

The funds disbursed through the State Department of Housing will go towards renovating Broder Place, Maple Court, and Laurel Court. Combined these properties have 70 units for low income elderly and disabled persons. The renovations include kitchen replacements, walk-in showers, efficiency upgrades to water heaters and more handicap accessible ramps.

“The Suffield Housing Authority does excellent work within our community,” said Sen. Kissel. “Ensuring that our low income elderly and disabled residents have adequate housing accommodations is very important and ultimately helps our local towns succeed and grow. The Housing Authority in Suffield understands the importance of helping all residents live independent and productive lives. This grant will be put to good use helping to make the housing units more handicap accessible, improving the quality of life for many.”

“The Suffield Housing Authority does exemplary work operating self-sufficiently. When it comes to maintenance and ongoing repairs, they understand how to maximize value for the dollars spent. These additional resources will certainly help them to fund important larger projects,” said Rep. Zawistowski. “The Authority does great work helping these low income residents live more independent and productive lives.”

The grant for Suffield is part of $10.5 million being awarded by the Department of Housing to 16 municipalities in Connecticut to provide infrastructure upgrades and improvements with the goal of combating blight, improving neighborhoods, and increasing economic development.
