Rep. Fred WilmsState Representative Fred Wilms represents the 142nd General Assembly district, which includes Norwalk and New Canaan.

He was elected to his second two-year term in November 2016. Wilms serves on the legislature’s committees on Appropriations, Planning and Development, and Transportation.

Wilms was actively involved in Norwalk city government for 15 years. He served as Chairman of the Board of Estimate and Taxation from 2005-2013. In this capacity, he helped to protect Norwalk’s Triple AAA bond ratings. Additionally Fred served on the Norwalk Common Council, the Water Pollution Control Authority and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Besides his current role as State Representative, Fred has three years of Connecticut state government experience. He served on the Transportation Strategy Board where he promoted better use of commuter rail and highways.

Wilms is an avid community volunteer. He served as President of the Norwalk Senior Center from 2007-2011, and is also a proud “Norwalk Marching Bears” parent, and co-chaired Cavalcade in 2013.

Wilms’ two children, Mina and Peter, attended the Norwalk public schools: Columbus Magnet, West Rocks Middle and Norwalk High.

Professionally, Wilms is a Senior Vice President at Webster Bank, where he works with small businesses in Norwalk, New Canaan and lower Fairfield County. In this role he is an active member of the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce.
