Today, I joined my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate to unveil a responsible, no-tax-increase budget called “Confident Connecticut.” Tough decisions had to be made. Long-term changes within this proposal, such as imposing a strict spending cap as well as capping bond allocations, are a good step in preventing the downward fiscal trend the State of Connecticut has been subjected to. Some important qualities of the proposal include

• Holding Johnson Memorial Hospital harmless by not allowing municipalities to impose a tax on hospitals state-wide.
• Somers and Stafford will not have to pay municipal dollars to the teachers’ pension retirement fund. Our proposal assumes state responsibility to fund this account.
• Protects our seniors by funding programs like Meals on Wheels while phasing out the income tax on pensions and annuity income.

This is just the first-step in gaining back the confidence of our state government that you, our cities and towns, and businesses deserve. Please stay tuned for additional updates…
