Tomorrow – Saturday, January 27th – the Glastonbury and Manchester Health Departments will collaboratively host a flu vaccination clinic at the Glastonbury Town Hall, located at at 2155 Main Street. The Healthy Choices mobile van will be on-site from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to provide flu shots to anyone ages 4 years and older.
Glastonbury residency is not required and all insurance will be accepted. For reduced wait times, interested residents are encouraged to visit www.glastonbury-ct.gov/flushot to download and complete the flu shot form to bring to the clinic.
All vaccinations will be administered by licensed and trained professionals, including MDs, nurses, and pharmacists. Trained staff will administer the Flublok quadrivalent influenza vaccine (contains no egg proteins, gluten, thimerosal, antibiotics, or latex) for individuals 18 years and older. For those 4-17 years of age, Flucelvax (egg and preservative free) and Flaurix will be available. I encourage you to educate yourself on these vaccines before making a decision to receive one, or have one administered to your children.
During the past few weeks, seasonal influenza diagnoses are widespread throughout the country and has remained high in Connecticut. Local residents are being affected by influenza A strains (a strain common for this time as year), as well as influenza B strains, which typically don’t appear until much later in the season (click here to learn more from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention). The Towns of Glastonbury and Manchester are therefore hosting this event to reduce residents’ risks of contracting the influenza illnesses.
Any questions regarding this event should be directed to the Glastonbury Health Department at (860) 652-7534.
