Rep. McCarty Reads Dr. Seuss to Great Neck Elementary 1st Grade Class

WATERFORD – On March 2nd, the long-loved Dr. Seuss’ birthday and “Read Across America Day,” State Representative Kathleen McCarty (R-38) joined Mrs. Tonucci’s 1st grade class at Great Neck Elementary School in Waterford for a classic story, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

“The children were such a delight, it was wonderful to be back in the classroom again,” said Rep. McCarty, a former teacher and Board of Education member. “Dr. Seuss has written such engaging, timeless tales – celebrating a nation-wide effort to increase literacy on his birthday is a fantastic cause to be a part of and share with our students.”

The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. Rep. McCarty, who introduced numerous education-related bills this session, is fighting to preserve Education Cost Sharing (ECS) formula in Connecticut’s state budget.
