Reps. Labriola and O’Neill, Sen. Kane Host Screening of “Home of the Brave”

State Reps. David Labriola and Arthur O’Neill and State senator Rob Kane hosted more than two dozen people atthe legislative Office Building Thursday evening for a screening of “Home of the Brave: When Southbury Said No to the Nazis” a film by Scott Sniffen.

The Connecticut-produced documentary examines the history and circumstances surrounding a 1937 attempt by the Nazi party to establish a youth camp in Southbury. Residents, infuriated by the idea, rallied against the Nazis and turned them away.

Rep. David Labriola joined about a dozen fellow Waterbury-area legislators for the annual Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce legislative breakfast at the Courtyard by Marriott Thursday morning. After brief remarks the veteran legislators answered questions from an audience comprised of business leaders and executives from across the region. Topics of discussion included the high cost of energy in the state, health care, jobs and manufacturing among others.
