State Rep. Noreen Kokoruda invites all of Madison’s 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Brown Middle School, The Country School, Our Lady of Mercy School and Polson Middle School to participate in an essay contest about “WHY DO WE CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY.”
Students’ essays should focus on the history and role that the recognition of Memorial Day has had on the American public.
- Students must submit an essay to their school by May 4th
- Essays will be judged by each school’s administration
- Criteria for judgment is based on form, style, research, grammar, and insight
The top essay chosen by Rep. Kokoruda will be read during Madison’s Memorial Day ceremonies, and the top three essay writers from each school will be invited to a presentation ceremony with the Board of Selectman where they will receive special recognition from Rep. Kokoruda.
This contest is designed to inspire pride in our history, heighten historical awareness and reinforce creative writing skills. The contest will provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
The date and time of the ceremony will be chosen at a later date.
