STRATFORD- State Representatives Laura Hoydick and Ben McGorty kept the bells ringing outside the Stratford Walmart Tuesday night for the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.
In an hour period, Reps. Hoydick and McGorty raised over $100 dollars for the Greater Bridgeport Salvation Army. The Stratford Firefighters Union – Local 988 joined the lawmakers and presented them and Lt. Gavin Yatts of the Salvation Army with a generous check.
“It was great to see our community come together to help those in need,” said Rep. Hoydick. “We are in the season of giving and many in our community and our surrounding communities need our help. Let’s continue to support our local charities and nonprofits and work together to help them serve our communities.”
“I want to thank residents and the Stratford Firefighters for helping us fill the kettle,” said Rep. McGorty. “Next time you’re walking by a bell ringer please consider making a donation. Every donation small or large that the Salvation Army receives will help those in our communities that need it the most throughout the year.”
The Greater Bridgeport Salvation Army hopes to collect $80,000 in donations this season. Bell ringers will be out daily at various Walmart and Stop and Shop locations in Stratford, Bridgeport, and Trumbull.
