State Representative Stephanie Cummings (R-74) on Tuesday joined Veteran’s Count CT’s Steve Dunkle and Tonya Tollefsen to deliver cases of food and water, personal care items and clothing to the St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury.

The donations, collected during a November Stuff a Humvee drive organized and hosted by Rep. Cummings at the Reidville Drive Stop and Shop, were distributed to veterans and shelters across the Greater Waterbury area. Tuesday’s delivery to the Merriman Culinary School / Soup Kitchen was the final distribution from that event.  Hundreds of veterans and residents-in-need benefitted from the donations.

State Representative Stephanie Cummings (R-74), in conjunction with Veterans Count Connecticut, Waterbury Veteran’s Memorial Committee, the AOH Veterans Committee and Stop and Shop Supermarkets, and with assistance from the Connecticut Military Department, hosted a successful “Stuff a Humvee” event to collect needed food and personal care items to assist local veterans in need.

Stop and Shop had collection boxes at all three Waterbury locations – Waterbury Plaza, 240 Chase Ave., Naugatuck Valley Shopping Center, 920 Wolcott St., and 410 Reidville Drive – from October 21 through November 16 and collected a large amount of food and personal care products. Together with generous donations from shoppers and others who came by just to donate, they were able to stuff a Humvee twice, and also fill a 12-foot long troop transport truck with generous donations.

Rep. Cummings would like to thank everyone who participated and is looking forward to the next drive!
