Groton – On Saturday, January 20 the Lions Club District 23C held its 9th annual banquet to recognize multiple local Humanitarian of the Year Award recipients.

Rep. Holly Cheeseman and Sen. Paul Formica presented citations to two constituents who won the award this year: David Putnam from East Lyme and Roberta “Bobbie” Ziegra from Salem.

“We applaud all the recipients for their selfless contributions to their local communities,” said Formica and Cheeseman. “We especially want to recognize the community service efforts of Dave and Bobbie. They inspire so many through their efforts to give back to others.  Congratulations on receiving the 2018 Lions Club Humanitarian of the Year award!”

Bobbie was active for 12 years with Girl Scouts of America during which time she helped raise funds to take her scouts to an International Girl Scout camp in Mexico.  Bobbie was elected to the Board of Library Trustees and is involved in supporting the Friends of the Salem Public Library where she chaired the Hospitality Committee for many years. She has also hosted the Salem Lions Tag Sale for years at her home to help support the organization.
