Each year, the state’s non-partisan Office of Legislative Research (OLR) distributes its report on important issues that the General Assembly may encounter during the 2018 legislative session. You can view or download the report by clicking here. Here are a couple of topics that I believe are major priorities for us to tackle:

The State Budget – It is critical that we get our state spending and borrowing under control. We are facing more than a $220 million deficit for this fiscal year, which is projected to grow to over $5 billion in the coming years.

Transportation Funding – Several recent budgets from Gov. Malloy and his legislative team raided the Special Transportation Fund. Now, he’s canceling crucial repair projects because he says the fund doesn’t have enough in it. Yet, conversation about gas tax increases, tolls, and even a mileage tax are swirling at the State Capitol. This important, complex issue has far-reaching implications for you and our state.
