HARTFORD – State Representative Brain Ohler (R-64) and Jay Case (R-63) met with members of the Northwest Hills Council of Governments (NHCOG), Council of Small Towns (COST), and Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG). The meeting was held at the Legislative Office Building on Wednesday morning with discussion focused on the state budget and its effect it has on the various municipalities across the state.

Rep. Ohler said, “As a legislator it’s imperative that an open line of communication is maintained with municipal leaders. By hosting members of our rural COGs it allows us to converse collectively and voice concerns that may be affecting our small towns. I refuse to accept the fact that our state budget will be balanced on the backs of our small towns.”

“I put forth a proposal that would require the state to report aid dollars to municipalities by March 31. This would allow adequate time for towns to adjust their budgets, while taking into account an accurate projection of state aid,” said Rep. Case. “Unfortunately, this concept did not survive the committee process, but it certainly is a concept that should be considered by my legislative colleagues.”
