Carpino: Replacement of Route 17A Bridge Over Carr Brook in Portland

PORTLAND- State Rep. Christie Carpino announced the Connecticut Department of Transportation has scheduled the replacement of the Route 17A bridge over Carr Brook in Portland on or about Wednesday, May 7, 2014. A detour will be required. 

 

The project consists of the replacement of bridge with a 28-foot clear span structure comprised of a precast concrete rigid frame structure founded on piles and cast-in-place concrete footings. Also, the cast-in­ place concrete wingwalls will be founded on piles and cast-in-place concrete footings. The overall width  of  the  proposed  structure  will  be  35′-8″,  which includes  a  32-foot  curb-to-curb  width  to accommodate a 12-foot travel lane and 4-foot shoulder in each direction. Approximately 500 feet of roadway reconstruction will be performed, along with replacing the existing guide railing with Type R-B 350 guiderail that conforms to current standards.

DOT Project No. 0112-0114 is scheduled to be completed November 19, 2014.

VEHICLE DETOUR INFO

A portion of Route 17A will be closed to thru traffic with a detour in place from May 7, 2014 until the scheduled reopening of Route 17A on October 1, 2014. The detour will be clearly marked with proper signage directing motorist to Route 17 in Portland.
