Cromwell – Today State Representative Christie Carpino (Cromwell/Portland) submitted a legislative proposal that would amend the Connecticut Constitution by placing a two term limit on the Office of the Governor. Currently, the state’s constitution does not limit how many terms one is allowed to serve as Governor.

“Holding a monopoly over the executive branch does not promote good government,” explained Carpino in regard to her submission of the proposal to the legislature’s Government Administration and Elections Committee (GAE). “Fresh ideas that new candidates provide promote an environment that fosters the creation of sound public policy, regardless of party affiliation.”

The amendment will need to first be considered by the GAE committee before it is put to a vote before the General Assembly. As it is a constitutional amendment the proposal would need to pass both chambers of the legislature with a super majority to be placed on the ballot as a question for the 2016 election. Carpino submitted a similar proposal in the previous legislative session.

The legislature will convene for session on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
