TOLLAND – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) congratulated Tolland High School October 1 as they were awarded a $7,500 grant from the AT&T* Foundation to fund additional trips and networking opportunities for the school’s thriving business club.

Tolland High School’s Business Club – a chapter of the international organization DECA – was launched in 2012 and has since grown to include more than 60 student members. The club gives its members the opportunity to learn and hone valuable management skills through hands-on, real-world experiences.

In years past, the club has brainstormed, proposed and organized sales-oriented fundraisers, career development workshops, “Shark Tank”-style business competitions and several community service events at organizations throughout the town.

AT&T Foundation’s $7,500 grant will allow the club to serve more members and add additional events and trips to its 2015-2016 schedule.

“Our community’s future is in the hands of hard-working students like those involved in Tolland High School’s business club,” Rep. Ackert said. “I look forward to seeing these aspiring businessmen and businesswomen advance through their academic and professional careers. This grant will give them even more opportunities to learn and generate their interests, and for that I am very grateful to AT&T.”

“The DECA business club is one of many great organizations we are proud to offer our students,” said Tolland High School Principal Dominique Fox. “We thank AT&T for their generosity. In the more than capable hands of student and faculty leaders, this grant will be put to good use.”

“Clubs like this offer invaluable professional experience that students will use for years to come,” AT&T Connecticut Regional Vice President Abby Jewett, said. “We are proud to support Tolland High School and look forward to watching their business club continue to grow.”
