HARTFORD– Last Week, State Representatives Tim Ackert (R-8) and Sam Belsito (R-53) hosted a Town Hall Meeting to address constituents’ questions and concerns about the 2016 Legislative Session.

“This session we are working on legislation that will have an affect on the town of Tolland and the surrounding communities we represent, and it is necessary for us to seek out the suggestions and concerns of our constituents,” said Rep. Ackert. “Residents that have a concern or suggestion about legislation please feel free to reach out so we can work together to move Connecticut in the right direction.”

“I think the two biggest concerns facing our constituents this legislative session include the state’s projected deficit, and the crumbling foundation issue impacting hundreds of residents throughout our districts,” said Rep. Belsito. “It’s time for the Democrat-controlled legislature to cut back their out-of-control spending habits and make long-term structural changes to the budget. In addition, we need to work with the insurance industry to provide relief to the residents dealing with deteriorating  foundations.”

The major topics of conversation were the ongoing budget deficit facing our state, the devastating issue of crumbling foundations wreaking havoc across Tolland and other neighboring communities and the controversial UConn labor raises and the current CTFastrak proposal to extend the bus route to UConn.

The 2016 legislative session began on February 3rd and ends on May 4th.  The Office of Fiscal Analysis is now projecting an approximately $219 million dollar deficit this year and a budget shortfall in the neighborhood of $4.6 billion in the next biennium.
