COVENTRY – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) joined his fellow veterans, municipal leaders, members of local law enforcement, and Senate colleague at Coventry’s Annual Veterans Day Ceremony held at the Senior Center.

As the featured speaker, Rep. Ackert paid tribute to the many veterans who have served our country here and abroad and for those who have paid the ultimate price, likening them to superheroes due to their fearless bravery and dedication to keeping this country safe.

Rep Ackert asked the audience, “how many conflicts have we had in this country?”

“These men and women are fighting for us, they have decided to get into a plane or onto a boat and go elsewhere in order to protect our interests here,” Rep. Ackert said. “They leave their friends and their families for an undetermined amount of time and this is where the ‘super’ part comes from.”

Rep Ackert said “when people come up to me and say thank you for your service, I tell them it was my honor to have served and to have been a part of that great group of individuals who made a commitment to protect this great country of ours.”

The ceremony, hosted by the Coventry-Mansfield American Legion Post 52, is their largest event of the year, with today’s attendance including more than 50 veterans and their families. Post Commander Manny Rodriguez also included a memorial tribute to the many POW/MIA soldiers who have still not returned home.

The event concluded with a twenty-one gun salute.

Rep. Ackert (R-8) is joined by members of the Coventry Police Department, Coventry-Mansfield American Legion Post 52, and Senator Tony Guglielmo.
