VERNON – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) joined Office of Early Childhood Commissioner Myra Jones-Taylor at the Center Road School in Vernon Tuesday, where they visited two preschool classrooms funded through the Federal Preschool Development Grant and the state School Readiness Program.

Rep. Ackert and Commissioner Jones-Taylor joined the children in crafts and activity time. Each classroom has fifteen students enrolled, and Vernon has three other similar classrooms at different locations.

“I have long been a believer that comprehensive early childhood education is the best way to create successful students in the future,” Rep. Ackert said. “I thank the Commissioner for her attention to our community and everyone involved in making these classes available to our parents and students.”

The Federal Preschool Development Grant is a competitive grant awarded to states through the Office of Early Learning to create a high-quality and collaborative preschool education to students across the country. The state School Readiness Program, administered by the Connecticut Department of Education, aims to increase the number of quality preschools available to Connecticut residents.
