HARTFORD- State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) joined his colleagues and members of the Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Caucus as part of Family Hearing Day.

The event now in its 5th year is designed to not only provide lawmakers with the opportunity to hear first-hand from members of the IDD community, but also the challenges and comments their care givers, parents and advocates face from across the state.

“It is one of our responsibilities as state representatives to ensure the vital services the IDD community require are protected,” Rep. Ackert said.

‘Family Hearing Day’ was created specifically for legislators to listen to parents concerns about their children’s’ future living needs, enlighten them on the critical lack of funding for support services, the seemingly endless wait lists for care and a myriad of other issues families face when accessing DDS supports and services.

This will be Rep. Ackert’s fourth year serving on the first-in-the-nation state legislative Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities caucus, which was formed in 2015.
