HARTFORD- State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8), who has long fought on behalf of homeowners in their quest to receive some type of assistance, testified in front of the Judiciary Committee in support of the continued work being done by the legislature to help those affected by crumbling foundations.

Representative Ackert, who was joined by Tim Heim, President of the Connecticut Coalition Against Crumbling Basements¬ spoke to committee members to offer his assistance with the recently introduced SB-518, An Act Concerning Additional Assistance for Homeowners with Crumbling Concrete Foundations.

“This issue has paralyzed many homeowners throughout my district,” Rep. Ackert said. “Rather than being encouraged by contractors working on new developments, I’m witnessing 20 to 30 year-old houses being lifted so that their foundations can be replaced. People’s life savings are disappearing, town budgets are being destroyed, and individuals’ lives are essentially being financially ruined.”

In last October’s approved bipartisan budget, legislators authorized $20 million in bonding over a four year period to help support crumbling foundations.
