STORRS – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-Coventry) celebrated the groundbreaking of the University of Connecticut’s brand new Engineering and Science Building September 9 at the Storrs campus.

The building will include state-of-the-art laboratories in an open floor space to encourage collaboration and foster relationships between faculty and students of all disciplines. It will house specialists in chemical engineering, cyber physical systems engineering, biomedical engineering and other sciences.

“Governor Malloy and I may disagree on some investments, namely when it comes to the busway,” Rep. Ackert said playfully, “but we definitely agree on this investment here at UConn. What we have here extends beyond a flagship university – we are beyond the borders of Connecticut. Look at where the professors and students and our dean and others are coming from, and the culture that we are bringing into UConn and New England. It is truly amazing and I can’t wait to see this new facility and the progress it brings once it is completed.”
