Rep. Ackert Announces the State’s Investment in Coventry’s Early Childhood Center

HARTFORD– State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) was pleased with the decision of the state’s Bond Commission today for granting Coventry’s School District $75,000 for necessary repairs, improvements and upgrades to the Coventry Early Childhood Center.

“Today’s investment will give Coventry the ability to provide teachers and students a clean and safe learning environment that will unlock our children’s greatest potential and create a long-term path toward a successful life,” said Rep. Ackert. “I am proud that we are making smart investments that will benefit our local communities for years to come.”

According to the Bond Commission, funds are distributed from the Smart Start Competitive Grant Program to assist school districts with design and construction for renovations and improvements including technology and equipment to create additional early childhood classrooms.

The capital improvements being made by the school district include installing two handicapped accessible bathrooms, a water fountain and sink, an interactive white board with a projector and a play space that will be age-appropriate. With the grant, the school will move forward with their plan to start constructing a new entrance to accommodate families with young children, which will be equipped with a buzzer system to prevent unwanted entrance during school hours.

Smart Start was established during the 2014 legislative session with the goal of expanding preschool statewide in public schools that already exist within towns and cities.

State Rep. Tim Ackert represents the 8th House District, comprised of Columbia, Coventry, Tolland, and Vernon
