COVENTRY – State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) awarded five Coventry Boy Scouts with congratulatory certificates November 3 as they completed the NRA Rifle Safety Course sponsored by American Legion Post 52 and were inducted into the Coventry Sharpshooters. The Scouts, led by Post Commander Manny Rodriguez, were also honored by State American Legion Commander Paul Spedaliere.

“These fine young men have shown a great deal of responsibility, honor and hard work in completing this course,” Rep. Ackert said. “I am proud of each and every one of you, and grateful to Manny and all members of Post 52 for making it possible for you to master these important skills.”

The Scouts completed the course using drill rifles donated by other Posts who have it in the past and funded it by offering NRA training classes for adults. Commander Rodriguez has been working with other members of Post 52 for years to make this program available to young people in Coventry.

The Scouts honored include Tucker Cormier, Brandon Aberle, Tyler Maheu, Jason Smith, and Greg Sadlak. Jacob Provost, who also completed the course, was not present at the ceremony.
