MANCHESTER– State Representative Tim Ackert (R-8) and other local legislators met with members of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Tolland County Chamber, and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) for breakfast to discuss the legislative priorities for the new legislative session of the General Assembly.

Members from both chambers packed into the Manchester Chamber headquarters to ask questions’ ranging from headaches at DMV to opening up the state employee union contracts; however, the main focus of the morning was how the legislators were going to tackle this fiscal crisis.

“As a small business owner myself I understand your frustrations,” said Rep. Ackert. “In order to maintain existing businesses and attract new ones to the State of Connecticut we need to make long-term structural changes to the budget process.”

The 2016 legislative session convened on Wednesday, February 3rd. During even-numbed years, the General Assembly gathers for a three-month period in what’s typically referred to as the “short session.” Governor Dannel Malloy addressed the General Assembly on Wednesday discussing his proposals for the 2017 budget.
