An agreement between the State of Connecticut and the Becker Construction Company has been made to extend the prohibition of stone aggregate from being sold or produced from the Becker Quarry until June 30, 2018.

Becker Quarry has been identified as a hot spot for pyrrhotite, the mineral that causes concrete foundations to crumble.

“While I am happy to see this extension as it does halt any new homes from being affected, I would prefer a much stronger agreement put into place,” Rep. Ackert said. “I would personally like to see this quarry permanently shut down.”
